Strategic Planning
Our experience suggests that the key to sound strategic planning is a decision making process that 1) separates the technical facts from the community values and people from the issues/ problems; 2) is value driven, focusing on interests rather than positions; 3) generates a variety of options before and then settling on an agreement; and 4) insists that the agreement be based on objective criteria and sound decision-aiding tools and techniques that effectively prioritize options (to avoid the all-too-common wish-list outcome).
Using our planning process, EPI has successfully helped spawn creative strategies for community revitilization, resource management, economic development and more. These projects have included:
- Supported and structured group decision making
- Strategic planning
- Community visioning
- Group decision making
- Project evaluation and prioritization
- Policy assessment and evaluation
- Project negotiation
- Non-market compensation and valuation
